MAMF NMA Charity
Our son, Mike died from Meningococcal Disease, more commonly known as Bacterial Meningitis. Mike was 44 years old when he died from this preventable disease. When Mike died, we had never heard of
Bacterial Meningitis, but we quickly became versed in this often fatal disease. We tried to educate ourselves about this disease that so quickly killed our son, brother, and uncle. We contacted several organizatoins
who had meningitis in their title, or referenced it in their web comment. None responded, except, for Lynn Bozof, the President of the National Meningitis Association. Lynn sent us documentation,
spoke with us on the phone and invited us to a meeting she was conducting in our area. We got so much encouragement, and tons of compassions because Lynn and her husband and lost one of their sons
In the years following Mike's death and many interactions with both Lynn and the NMA organization, we grew to understand that had we known about the meningitis vaccines, our Mike might be celeberating
his 58th Birthday with his family. In the years since Mike's death, we have formed a charity in his memory, held fund raising activiies like a Walk for Meningitis, an annual golf classic, and made presentations
on this disease to encourage parents and educators to get the meningitis vaccines for their families.
Through the generosity of people, especially those many friends of my son, we have been fortunate enough to generate several thousands of dollars to support outreach activities and contribute to the NMA organization.
We have been fortunate in being able to provide comfort and counsel to other parents and relatives of other people who have been struck down with this horrible disease. We felt privileged to have been
in a position to visit with several parents and have discussions with brothers, sisters, friends of those who have passed on from Meningitis.
Our Mike was a man who had literally hundreds of friends and they all became friends for life. His love of the game of golf was the impetus for our deciding to host a set of annual golf outings for rememberance
and to raise funds for the purpose of educating the public, encouraging parents and guardians to seriously consider getting their youngsters vaccinated from this disease. We continue our efforts to raise funds for
for education,
Throught our established non-profit organization, we are dedicated to increasing the public's awareness of meningitis, the education of medical professionals and clinicians in recognizing meningitis, and providing vaccines
and instructions for prevention of meningitis.
Our fund raising activities are focused on athletic events, golf, fun runs/walks and youth events. We also accept and solicit financial contributions from individual donors to assist in furthering the activities for our corporate goals of Awareness, Education and Prevention.
